Shopping & Commuting
Pemberwick being predominantly residential means that, with few exceptions, there isn’t really a business presence in this neighborhood like we’ve seen in other parts of Greenwich. This means that you’ll likely have to venture to other neighborhoods for your shopping and dining needs. However, that shouldn’t really be an issue because it is close to many amenities.
Route 1, called West Putnam Avenue in Greenwich, has absolutely everything you could need on a daily basis. Here you’ll find grocery stores, banks, highly-rated restaurants, a gym, and a post office. Route 1 also extends into New York, and you will find more shopping and highly-rated restaurants in Port Chester.
Speaking of New York, if you commute to New York City, the Greenwich train station is only 10 minutes away, and will get you to Grand Central in under an hour. Alternatively, the Port Chester train station is 6 minutes away and can get you to NYC just a bit faster. North of Pemberwick is the neighborhood of Glenville, where you can also find a small village area with restaurants, a park, a pharmacy, a bank, and more. The grocery store in Glenville has closed at the time of this filming, but hopefully, there will be a new grocery store soon. Having easy access to Port Chester, Route 1, and Glenville’s shopping, makes Pemberwick one of the most convenient neighborhoods in Greenwich.
Housing
Let’s take a look at what the housing is like in Pemberwick. Housing is made up of townhomes, condos, single-family and multi-family homes. Some homes might have more deferred maintenance or a lack of curb appeal when compared to Greenwich as a whole. That said, I should also point out that it’s one of the most affordable places to live in Greenwich, so if affordability is high on your list I would suggest looking here.
Parks & Activities
Next, let's take a look at Pemberwick Park. Its location makes it easy to access regardless of where you live in Pemberwick. It's also an ideal place to let the kids unwind after school, with its playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, and baseball diamond. If you're looking for somewhere to unwind, there's a 1.3-mile trail perfect for a peaceful walk after a hectic workday.
Pemberwick Park is relatively small compared to others in town, so if you’re looking for a park with a bit more in the way of amenities, Byram Park is only minutes away with its playground, pool, picnic area, and so much more. Byram Park even has a beach for those who don’t feel like taking the drive to Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich.
If it’s hiking you’re looking for, rather than a leisurely stroll, the 135-acre Fairchild Wildflower Sanctuary is not to be missed. Located only 12 minutes away, this nature preserve has varied terrain and wildlife. You’ll go from trails, to rolling hills, to wetlands, all within the hour or so it takes to complete the trail’s loop. The trails themselves are just the right amount of overgrown so they are still very walkable, but they don’t feel overly manicured.
Schools
If you live in this neighborhood, your kids will likely attend Hamilton Avenue Elementary and Western Middle School.
