Shopping & Commuting

Living in Smith Ridge gives residents the best of both worlds as New Canaan’s Town Center is only about 5 - 10 minutes away. This suburban-metropolitan center is home to casual and fine dining, cafes, posh shops and boutiques and commuters can grab the train to Grand Central. Residents in the northern part of the neighborhood also enjoy easy access to Lewisboro, which has a small village area just over the line in New York. You will find gas, groceries, dining, and other stores that will keep you from running into town, here.

Country Clubs

One of the main attractions in this part of New Canaan is the Country Club of New Canaan. It is a signature, private club, home to an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, paddle courts, pickleball courts, squash courts, and a newly built multi-lane inground pool with a dining pavilion. For the golf enthusiast, the golf course is a par 70, with a rating of 72.1, and a slope of about 135. The Club's practice facilities include a 20-station driving range and a putting green.  

Housing

Smith Ridge is set in rural suburbia. Mansions and estates sit on well over two acres of land. Homes here showcase pristine green lawns and long circular driveways, some with picturesque views. Natural fences and privacy shrubs give residents in this neighborhood a peaceful living space. 

Custom-built homes vary in diverse architectural styles. Classic colonial builds are transformed into majestic modern estates. Federal-style mansions expand with contemporary elegance. Both Georgian-inspired and brick manors with elegant lush gardens decorate these neighborhoods. Many of these homes include multi-use courts, inground pools, and hardscape spaces for our outdoor living. 

Organizations & Preserves

The New Canaan Land Trust is an important organization in New Canaan. Two of its preserves are located in this section of town. The first is the Firefly Preserve or Firefly Sanctuary. New Canaan is one of the first towns to dedicate a preserve on a land trust just for fireflies. Visitors from near and far come every June through July.  You can walk a short path to the wonder of the glow of thousands of fireflies. In the off-season, visitors can walk short trails and bird watch. The second preserve is the Browne Preserve. This scenic trail affords visitors views of the neighboring Reservoir and allows you to learn about the history of the property. In recent years, scouts have helped to improve the property through the construction of raised walkways and benches, and the installation of trail signs.

Schools & Where To Stay

School assignments in New Canaan are based on addresses. If you live in the Smith Ridge neighborhood, your elementary-age children will most likely attend East Elementary School. All public school students will attend Saxe Middle School and New Canaan High School.
