Saugatuck Shores Overview

Known for its 180-degree water views of rivers, lagoons, canals and the Long Island Sound, Saugatuck Shores is an exclusive waterfront neighborhood in Westport, Connecticut. Approximately 105 homes have access to resident-only-beaches. In fact, several of the homes in the neighborhood include exclusive rights to some of the smaller beaches that have clear seaside views.

Separated by a canal, Saugatuck Shores is split into two sections: Saugatuck 

Shores and Saugatuck Island. Like many coastal neighborhoods, such as Old Greenwich or Rowayton, homes in Saugatuck Shores are set close to one another, yet vary in plot size. Homes in both sections maintain coastal charm with surrounding water views matched with distinguished, seaside, architectural design. Many of these custom built homes are direct, waterfront, properties with private docks that overlook Long Island Sound, The Saugatuck River, or Bermuda Lagoon. 

Nautical Life in Saugatuck Shores

As you enter Saugatuck Shores, you will see the active Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club. Known for boating and sailing, this private club is home to 160 boats, each having its own slip. Other amenities include the pool, bathhouse, and barbecue areas. Further inland, at the mouth of Saugatuck Island sits Cedar Point Yacht Club. A more casual, active sailboat racing club, Cedar Point Yacht Club is managed by its members and welcomes anyone who shares the love of sailboat racing. 

Unique to Saugatuck Shores are the islands surrounding it. Cockenoe Island, one of the more popular islands, is a well known destination for kayakers, fishermen, clammers and beach-goers. You really get the beach-vibe when visiting this island. 

Directly across the tip of Saugatuck Island is Long Shore Club Park. Known to the locals as “Long Shore”, residents of Westport can enjoy amenities such as an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, pool, and the very popular LongShore Sailing School. The park also maintains a public marina for Westport residents. There is a casual, waterfront restaurant right on property where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and locally sourced food.

Views of Compo Beach, Westport's extensive, sandy beach, can be seen from Saugatuck Island. About a 15-20 minute drive, residents can enjoy this signature beach with a pavilion, snack bar, restrooms, playground, volleyball courts, and picnic areas. 

Depending on where you live in this neighborhood, the Westport train station is a 10-15 minute drive. The 70-minute train ride into Grand Central  is a nice option for commuters.

Downtown Westport is only about ten minutes away.  Locally known as an upscale shopping and dining destination, downtown is lined with chic boutiques and popular store fronts. There are many restaurants located in the downtown area with options for fine or casual dining and take-out too.
