If you are looking for a relatively affordable area in Greenwich that has easy access to just about everything Greenwich has to offer, Cos Cob should not be missed. Flanking the coast of the Mianus River, the tree lined streets, parks, shopping and restaurants are excellent.

Train

Let's start here, at the Cos Cob train station. It will get you to Grand Central in about 50 min. Parks

Right next to the station is one of my favorite parks in town, Cos Cob park. It’s one of my favorites because of the walking trails along the water's edge, along with the breathtaking views, but you might also love it for the playground, or even the ball fields.

Just north of the station, you have Loughlin Park, which is a small park that’s a great destination if you live within walking distance. It has a playground, tennis courts, and a baseball Diamond. 

If you head north of RT one, you also have Bible Street Park with its bocce ball court, basketball court, baseball diamond, and playground.

If you love to hike, I have two really good options for you in Cos Cob. The first is Montgomery Pinetum. When you visit, you will find a 1.9 mile loop, considered to be moderately challenging. The park is spread across 125 acres, along with a greenhouse, education center, ponds and more. It hosts 100s of species of Conifers, which were the passion of its founder Robert Montgomery. If you love the outdoors, this is one park you won't want to miss.

The second option is Mianus River Park. With more than 400 acres and 7 miles of trails, this one is a hiker's dream, but you might also love it for birdwatching, fishing and picnicking. The Mianus river runs through the park which creates a very picturesque setting. There are two entrances, one in Greenwich, and the other is in Stamford. If you are looking to do a quick visit, I would suggest the Stamford entrance.

Walkability

If you would like a walkable neighborhood, some areas may be suitable, particularly the southern part of the neighborhood, roughly south of Bible Street park where the streets are more tight knit. You can easily walk to the train station and Cos Cob Park from anywhere in the neighborhood, that is south of route 1.

Shopping & Restaurants 

And there is shopping along route one, but I wouldn't consider it a village area. At least not compared to Old Greenwich or Downtown Greenwich. We have video tours on those areas as well if you would like to explore them. The shopping and dining around Cos Cob has more of a boutique feel and some of it doesn't look very high end, but don't let that fool you. 

In addition to the boutique shops, You have a post office, pharmacy, banks and some excellent dining options in the area including Little Pub, The Cos Cobber for American, Pizza Post, Joey B’s for hot dogs, green and tonic for juices, Greenwich and Delancey for Eastern European, Mumbai Times for Indian, and on and on, there are dozens of highly rated restaurants in the area. 

While there aren't any major grocery stores in the neighborhood, you will likely hop a few hundred feet over the neighborhood line to one of my favorites, Balducci's Market. 

If you are thinking about staying in the area when you visit, try the Stanton House inn, or the Del-a-mar, both are excellent.

Housing

The housing in Cos Cob is varied. There are some waterfront options, which consist of mostly condos and a few single family homes. If you like the northern part of Riverside and old Greenwich, but are struggling to find something in your budget, Cos Cob would be worth exploring because it tends to offer more affordable options with easy access to town amenities.

Recreation 

While you don't have a beach in Cos Cob, you will likely head over to Tod's Point in Old Greenwich for that.

Besides the parks that I mentioned earlier, there are several other recreational things to do.

First off, the southern part of the neighborhood has easy access to all of the amenities in Downtown within a few minute drive, including Bruce Park and Greenwich Ave.

Cos Cob residents also have an outstanding library. Sure, you could use the others, but with this one in your backyard it might not be worth the trip. 

You also have the Greenwich Historical Society. If you love history, Greenwich is deep with a varied and interesting past. You might be surprised when you realize that Greenwich is a whole lot more than just a wealthy suburban enclave. 

If your kids love theater, they can head over to the Open Arts Alliance to build their acting skills and perform.

And, If you are a boater, check out the Palmer Point Marina, OR for a more social environment, head over to the Greenwich Water Club. It's more than a marina and includes a fitness center, water sports, pools, clubhouse, events and dining.

Schools

If it's schools that you are interested in, Greenwich assigns schools based on where you live, so I have compiled a school district map, home search feature for each school district, as well as the school look up feature on my site.
