Restaurants & Shopping
There are other waterfront village areas in the gold coast, like Rowayton and Southport, but they don't compare when it comes to sheer volume of high end shopping and restaurants.
Straddling the Saugatuck River, Westport's In-Town neighborhood is packed with ways to spend time with family and friends. If you love to shop, you have some excellent options including William Sonoma, Vineyard Vines, Lulu Lemon, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Anthropology, Patagonia, Barnes and Noble, Tiffany, and more.
If you get tired from all of the shopping, head over to one of the many highly rated restaurants including Pink Sumo Sushi, Basso Restaurant and Wine Bar, Walrus Alley, and many more.
Library & Entertainment
If it ended there, I think most people would be happy, but that's not all the In-Town neighborhood offers.
You will have one of the best libraries in the gold coast, right in the in-town shopping area. The event calendar is packed with educational things for the kids to do, there are even film workshops and a camp too.

If you are open to it, you can drop the kids off at the library and go grab a coffee or juice with friends in one of the shops nearby, or perhaps a little retail therapy is in order.
If it's entertainment that you are after, you may want to try the Westport museum, as well as the beloved Westport Country Playhouse with its full calendar of fun and educational events.
What the In-Town neighborhood is lacking is a major grocery store. It’s not that you don't have any nearby, but they are a bit too far away to walk to. You do however have a post office, and several banks, and fitness centers to choose from in the In-Town neighborhood.
It's also a great place to watch the memorial day parade, just don't steal my spot!
Housing
Living In-Town, or nearby it, has been highly desirable for our clients who want easy access to walkable amenities and you can choose from both condos and single family homes.
If you love older historic homes, there are several historic districts near the In-Town village area which certainly helps to keep the charm up. However, if you would prefer a newer home, In-Town offers that too. Many of our clients who have preferred newer homes have found a fit just south of the village area. There are several quiet streets there that offer easy, walkable access.
Schools, Train, & Parks
There isn't a train station in the village area, but the Westport train station is 7 minutes away, closer if you choose to live in the southern part of the neighborhood. Taking a train from the Westport station will get you to grand central in about 70 minutes.
If you aren't already aware, I can't say much about the schools due to state regulations, but I can compile the information for you so that you can make a good decision. You will find all of the school information as well as tons of useful information about Westport, in our Westport buyers guide.
If you love to walk, run or ride your bike, check out Winslow park with its walking trails and picnic tables. You also have Grace K Salmon Park along the water's edge, it's just south of the village area. Another thing worth mentioning is there is a nice trail behind the previously mentioned library, also along the water's edge.
Speaking of water, If you or your family love the beach, you will have to leave the In-Town neighborhood. The good news is that Compo beach, a town favorite, is just minutes away.
If you are thinking of exploring the area and you need a place to stay, try either the Inn at Longshore, which is in Westport, or the Delamar in the Southport neighborhood of Fairfield. They are both highly rated and our clients have enjoyed the stay.
