Saugatuck is an excellent location for commuters as it offers its residents two conveniences: the proximity to I-95 and the Westport Train Station. There are many different styles of homes in Saugatuck, some of which are within walking distance to the convenient amenities this neighborhood has to offer. Let’s take a closer look.

Saugatuck's Culinary Scene

Foodies, watch out! Some of the best restaurants in Westport are located in Saugatuck. It is a haven for a variety of top notch eateries. Italian trattorias, exotic Asian food, American pubs, fresh seafood bars, pizza parlors, steak houses and French bistros are just some of the casual restaurants that are sprinkled throughout this part of town. In particular, Railroad Place, an outdoor alley of restaurants alongside the train station, gives commuters a chance to unwind, relax and have a delicious meal on their way home. There is a hip vibe when enjoying the outdoor dining experience here. And, don’t forget the sweet shops like ice cream parlors and specialty bakeries.

Homes with Character

Homes in Saugatuck vary in many different ways. Single family homes range in both size and style, and Large estates border the southern shores of the Saugatuck River. Many of these riverfront mansions include long private driveways, well maintained lawns and gardens, in-ground pools and in some cases, private docks with direct access to The Saugatuck River. Many of these homes have 180 degree waterfront views. 

Stony Point is one area that is conveniently located adjacent to the Westport Train Station. It is a long, private drive settled with just about a dozen grand homes with these amenities. 

Just north and east of the train station are well maintained and attractive homes with varying sizes and lots. Streets are lined with bungalows, Victorians, and contemporary colonials, to name a few. Some of these more modest homes also enjoy river views and small docks. Many have kept their New England charm, yet are designed with up-to-date features and conveniences. 

Education & Lifestyle Perks

If you live in the Saugatuck neighborhood, your children will likely attend Kings Highway Elementary School and Coleytown Middle School. All students in Westport go to Staples High School. If you are looking for something more maintenance free, some condominiums are also located in this part of town. For one, the Saugatuck Condominiums are nearby the center of Saugatuck, & the train station. If affordability is on your list, Saugatuck has a small section of multi-family homes right near the train station as well.

Parks & Recreation

There are several private clubs located in and close to Saugatuck. Birchwood Country Club is located in this neighborhood. Members enjoy a nine-hole golf course cited among the top ten in the United States, tennis courts, an olympic size pool with a kiddie pool and fine dining. 

Just further east, is the Saugatuck Rowing and Fitness Club. This world-class rowing club is home to a fitness center, rowing facilities and waterfront dining situated right on the Saugatuck River. 

On the southern end of the Saugatuck neighborhood is the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club. Known for boating and sailing, this private club is home to 160 boats, each having its own slip. Other amenities include the pool, bathouse, and barbecue areas. Further inland, at the mouth of Saugatuck Island sits Cedar Point Yacht Club. 

Westport is passionate about protecting green spaces and parks. One right in the center of Saugatuck is the newly updated Riverside Park. Here residents enjoy a pedestrian path, and open green lawns with picnic tables. 

Shopping & Beaches

Living here, you are about between an 4 and 8 minute drive from Compo Beach and Longshore park. You can learn more about them in our Compo Beach tour. 

Geographically, Saugatuck offers its residents easy access to downtown Westport which is only about a 1 to 8 minute drive depending on where you are in Saugatuck. The In-Town neighborhood is an amazing area, and I would highly encourage you to explore our In-Town tour if you want to know more. 

While there is no grocery store in Saugatuck, Whole Foods and Stew Leonard’s are just a short drive away as well.
