Historic Waterfront Area
To truly know what it's like to live in Southport, you would have to explore its stand out feature, the beautiful and charming waterfront historic district. Bounded in the north by the railroad tracks, to the south by Southport harbor, to the east by Rose Hill Rd, and to west by Old South Rd. the historic area is absolutely stunning.
When you come to explore this area, You will find numerous structures from the 1800s including the Trinity Church, Pequot library, the Southport Congregational church, and many historic homes owned by lucky Southport residents.
Since we are down here, let's take a stroll over to the Pequot Yacht Club and take a look at the beautiful harbor. If you are a boater, or want to be one, the Southport harbor is obviously an excellent place to keep your boat.
The golf course on the other side of the road belongs to the Country Club of Fairfield, and is technically in the Sasco neighborhood, but gosh, the views across the harbor wouldn't be the same without it.
Southport Village
The great thing about Southport is that it doesn't stop here. If this is a neighborhood that you truly want to live in, it sure would be nice to have a few amenities right in your backyard, and Southport delivers.
It probably goes without saying that this is an excellent running, walking or biking neighborhood. But if you are looking for a gym, you will find an equinox not far from the train station.
Speaking of the station, you can walk to it from the southern part of the neighborhood and it will get you to grand central in about 70 min. By the way, You can search all homes currently for sale in Southport as well as the other Southport info that we have gathered for you by visiting the Southport page of our website.
Just steps from the train station you have just about everything you will need on a daily basis like a pharmacy, a small grocery store, banks, a post office and a few really great restaurants including one of my Favorites, Paci, which is located in a renovated structure adjacent to the railroad tracks. The food is amazing!
If you are planning to stay in Southport while you are exploring the area, you may want to try the Delamar, its top rated and many of our clients have said they enjoyed the stay.
You may also want to explore our Southport Pros and cons to decide if Southport is the right fit for you.
Beaches, Parks, and Schools
If you love to have Beaches and parks in your neighborhood you are in luck because Southport has several great options. You can head over to Southport Park or the Acorn Lane Preserve for a quick walk on the trails, or you can head over to the beautiful Southport Beach for a lazy day by the ocean. If you want to see the ocean, but don't feel like cleaning the sand from your shoes, try Perry's Green which is right in the heart of the historic area.
If you are interested in the schools in the area, you probably already know that the state limits what I can say about the schools, but I have compiled all of that information for you in our Fairfield buyers guide. It's available at the link on the screen.
If you love Southport, but the prices are stretching the budget a bit farther than you are comfortable, try exploring the Southport north of RT1, you will find the homes to be more affordable, and still have easy access to the Southport amenities you love.
