You probably know that Southport is a special neighborhood, you may have even seen it in a list of the best neighborhoods in the USA. However, there are a few things that you may want to consider before moving here. Today, I am going to cover the Pros and Cons of living in Southport CT.

Hi, if you are new to the channel my name is Charlie Vinci and I am a local realtor. My family has been in the area for 5 generations and my channel is about showing you everything that Connecticut's Gold Coast has to offer. You can get all of the supplemental items that I mention by going to the link on the screen, or I’ll leave you with a QR code at the end of the video.

Table of Contents

Historic Waterfront District

If you love historic homes, Southport delivers like few neighborhoods can. The beautiful waterfront historic area should not be missed. If you don't see yourself living in an older home, but still love the charm, the good news is that you have newer home options just a few minutes from the historic district.

This Southport map highlights the historic area. North of I-95 you will find newer homes that tend to be more affordable, and typically a bit more modest than those of the historic district.

Also, if you are looking for a condo, there are plenty of options in Southport. You can head over to our site and see all homes currently available for sale.

It's also worth pointing out that the historic area is a wonderful place to run, walk or ride a bike. It's relatively flat and has many features to ride to, however, you do have to cross the somewhat busy Route 1 to get to there from the northern part of Southport.

Village Area

While the village area is excellent, with a grocery store, pharmacy and a few great restaurants, you will find that some of your needs will be met outside of the village area. The great news is that you will have plenty of options in both Westport and Fairfield.

Speaking of the village area, if you want an idea of everything that Southport offers, you may want to check out the Neighborhood tour that we did. It will give you a great big picture understanding of the neighborhood.

Amenities

Another pro for Southport would have to be the beautiful sandy beach. It's a nice treat to have a beach of this caliber in the neighborhood, the only con being that parking can be limited during peak beach usage, but if you find that to be a problem you can always ride your bike.

The train station will get you into Grand central in 70 minutes. Be aware that not all trains stop in Southport, so you may want to explore the metro north schedule to see if there is a train that fits your needs.

If you commute by car, I-95 is just a few min from any part of the neighborhood.

You probably know that the state limits us from saying much about the schools, but I can compile that information for you, and you will find everything you need to research the schools in our Fairfield Buyers Guide.
